Monté J. Woods is a lifelong resident of DeRidder. She is a teacher with the Beauregard Parish School Board at DeRidder High School (DHS), where she was a 1983 graduate. She completed her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business and Office Education from Northwestern State University. Before returning to her alma mater, Ms. Woods spent 11 years teaching in Vernon Parish at both Pickering Jr./Sr. High School (9 ½ years) and Leesville High School (1 ½ years). She also earned her Master of Education degree in Educational Technology at McNeese State University. She is the head of the Vocational Business/CTE Department and a co-adviser of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club at DHS. Ms. Woods has more than 35 years of teaching experience.
In 2005, Ms. Woods received the honor of being selected as DHS Teacher of the Year and Beauregard Parish High School Teacher of the Year. Twelve years later, she received this honor again at DHS.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Woods is a secretary for her church, Starlight Missionary Baptist Church; and the Southwest Singing Convention (a community organization with the goal to raise funds for scholarships for local college students). She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Zeta Psi Omega Graduate Chapter of Lake Charles, LA and Future Business Leaders of America Professional Division. She believes you should strive to learn something new every day.
