DeRidder Main Street and the City of DeRidder will unveil a roadside marker for the 'DeRidder Commercial Historic District' at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6 near the at the intersection of N. Washington and US 190 (Ronald Reagan Highway). 

This is across from First National Bank and near the firefighter memorial.

The community is invited.

DeRidder Main Street and the City of DeRidder applied for and received a $1,950 grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation to place a National Register of Historic Places marker for the district.

The district was added to the National Register in 1983, yet a marker was never placed to mark the historic distinction.

The city’s Department of Public Works is assisting with its placement.

DeRidder Main Street and the City of DeRidder have also received a $2,000 grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation to place a marker at the historic First Street School which was added to the National Register in 1998. That marker will be placed later this year.

The DeRidder Main Street program aims to emphasize local history and encourage tourism in the district.
