Behind the bright lights, stars, bows, trees and wreaths, there are the hands that help make all of the Christmas grandeur happen.
Some of those hands belong to the City of DeRidder’s Public Works employees.
They work for weeks to create special memories for local families and visitors alike. Then after the holidays, they work to put it all away.
City employees team with local volunteer/show engineer Philip Mlynarski on the annual DeRidder Christmas Light Show. The show was created years ago by Mlynarski and was first held at his home. It was later moved to DeRidder City Hall and has grown since.
Also during the holidays, city employees prepare for things like the Christmas Parade, Fair Parade and other local festivals/events. And then they are there afterward to do the dirty work of picking up trash from city streets and cleaning restrooms.
We thank you all! You certainly are Santa’s helpers! When you see them, thank them! They take a lot of pride and interest in this each year!
The DeRidder Christmas Light Show is Dec. 1-Jan. 1 from 5:30 p.m. to Midnight, weather-permitting.
