An apple pie bakeoff will be held as part of the 2022 National Night Out event. Local amateur bakers can bring their best “Aunt Bee” apple pie to the War Memorial Civic Center, 250 West 7th Street, DeRidder, from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 1. This event is sponsored by Amerisafe. Judging will take place at 1 p.m., yet winners won’t be announced until the “Fife on the First” Comedy Show, also set Aug. 1 at the Civic Center — at 6 p.m. Entry pies will be served for dessert during the evening event, which is sponsored by Ampacet. Bakeoff entries will be judged on flavor and consistency (40 points); overall appearance (20 points); overall impression (20 points); and creativity (20 points). Prizes will be $50 and a ribbon for 1st; $25 and a ribbon for 2nd; and $15 and a ribbon for 3rd. The entry form deadline is July 15. Here’s the link to sign up: https://forms.gle/dnP5FafATK5LuNEM8.
