Certified Local Government (CLG)

In 2008 DeRidder was designated as a Certified Local Government (CLG). The CLG program is an initiative of the National Park Service and was developed to assist local municipalities in protecting their historic resources. Certified Local Government designation is intended to encourage communities to establish historic preservation programs at the local level. The program aims to foster neighborhood pride, to survey and inventory local historic properties, and to assist property owners in preserving their community's heritage.

The program is jointly administered by the National Park Service (NPS) and the State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) in each state, with each local community working through a certification process to become recognized as a CLG. CLGs then become an active partner in the Federal Historic Preservation Program and the opportunities it provides.
