Mayor Michael D. Harris was elected May 3, 2025, and sworn into office on May 18, 2025, becoming the first African American Mayor in the City’s history. His administration is guided by the values of Leadership, Integrity, and Transparency.
Since taking office, Mayor Harris has prioritized fiscal responsibility, organizational improvement, workforce development, housing, infrastructure, and community engagement. He initiated an external audit of City finances, reorganized City departments to improve service delivery, and expanded partnerships to create workforce training opportunities for residents.
Under his leadership, DeRidder has advanced affordable housing projects, enhanced parks and downtown amenities, established a new walking trail, and partnered with CLECO to install electric vehicle charging stations. Mayor Harris has also created and re-established citizen committees focused on youth, veterans, food insecurities, homelessness, and community advisory support.
Mayor Harris believes in second chances and community restoration, exemplified by hosting pro bono expungement events to help residents regain access to opportunity. His administration operates under the guiding vision of “Elevate DeRidder,” strengthening neighborhoods, improving quality of life, and building a city that serves all residents.
