Wayne Godfrey is the son of the late George Godfrey Sr of Mullins, South Carolina and Roberta Godfrey of Marion, South Carolina. He is the third of five children that was born to this union, three boys and two girls.
Mr. Godfrey graduated from Marion High School in 1972. After graduating high school, he worked at two different industrial plants, and decided in 1977 it was time to make a career change. So, in April 1977 he joined the U.S. Army, performed Basic Training, and Advanced Individual Training in Fort Knox, KY. His first duty station was at Fort Hood, TX, from there he served at the following duty stations: Bad Kissingen, GE, Bremerhaven, GE, Fort Hood, TX, South Korea, and Fort Polk, LA.
While stationed at Fort Polk for the first time, he met the love of his life, Rose Mary Husband. They were married in 1985 and PCS’d to Germany for five years before returning to Ft Polk. Wayne and Rose are the proud parents of Lisa Adams, Bobby Godfrey, Wayne Godfrey Jr, Shahara Handy, Shannon Godfrey, and Steven Godfrey, and even prouder grandparents of fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mr. Godfrey retired from the U.S. Army in April 1999 with 22 years of honorable service. He retired from the United States Postal Service in December of 2020 with 19 years of service. He has been serving for 22 years as the lead Pastor of God’s Temple of Refuge Full Gospel Church in DeRidder.
Mr. Godfrey is an individual that believes in doing what is best for the common good of all people. His desire is for an individual to always leave his presence feeling more strengthened and encouraged both spiritually and mentally.
